1st Semester Reflection

I think that my experience in 12 AP English was much better than 11 AP, and not just because we are online. 11 AP was so fast-paced and the workload was jam-packed. It was like we never got a single break. This year, I really enjoyed the course and the topics that we dove into, like reading lenses and truly learning how to properly analyze pieces of literature. Even though I thought it was slower paced, I feel like I gained more knowledge in the first semester than I had all of last year.

I haven't always enjoyed reading, however, I found myself really interested in this semester's pieces, like Death of a Salesman. After reading all of the Greek plays and such in the past years, it was nice to read a more recent play, and I enjoyed reading and analyzing it further. I even liked doing the Cornell notes for it (which I would never normally enjoy), and the artistic freedom that we had with those notes. I've felt myself becoming a better reader, which is really big for me.

I think that my favorite assignment that we did, was ironically, the final project. I loved being able to pick a topic of my choice, find information about the topic, and include it in my essay. All of the work that we've done in learning how to analyze and dig deeper (that so-what question that I had been previously struggling with) aided me in writing that essay and I felt proud when it was all done. It was, in a way, easy to write because I felt that I had so much to say about the topic because it was something I was interested in. I know that my writing skills have improved this semester, which is something I'm very happy about and I know will help my next semester and beyond.

I'm really eager to move onto the next semester and apply all the skills that I've gained in this past semester, not only in classwork but on the AP test as well.
